Giuseppe Lazzaro
Sicilia
Giuseppe Lazzaro and his family have lived on the eastern slopes of Etna for generations and have always worked the land for the domestic needs of vegetables, fruit and wine. It was probably his grandfather, specialized in pruning and grafting, who passed on to Giuseppe the talent and passion for nature, viticulture and wine, which made him abandon university, where he studied Mechanical Engineering, and join the world of wine.
In 2020 Giuseppe, after having gained experience for many years from a well-known Sicilian producer, decided that it was time to test himself and give a personal expression to his wines. He owns 2.5 hectares, which are distributed over four municipalities on Etna

About the Grape: Nerello Mascalese is a highly regarded, dark-skinned grape variety that grows most commonly on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. Its wines, which have had a rapid upsurge in popularity in the last decade, have a tendency to reflect their surroundings, giving taut, fresh red wines with fruity, herbaceous flavors, excellent minerality and an earthy nuance. Nerello Mascalese wines often have a perfume reminiscent of those of the noble wines of Barolo and Burgundy.
Curiosity: The vineyards are between 60 and 90 years old. For Giuseppe, the valorization and protection of Etna's delicate ecosystem is very important. The Sicilian black bee, from which he also produces honey, is the fulcrum of his approach to protect and recover the biodiversity typical of Etna.
